'The Penny By Taeghan Andriske
One hot summer day Colleen was on her daily walk. She was almost home when she found a penny on the walkway. “Oh My!” she said. “It must be a lucky penny. Then she repeated a rhyme, “See a penny pick it up all day long you’ll have good luck!” So she picked it up then she noticed that on the other side there was something engraved on the penny. It said:
You have only one wish -
Hold this penny in your hand
And make a wish.
Don’t be greedy or something bad
Will happen
She was amazed. Suddenly she remembered she did not have a husband or a dog. She got home and she wrote down a few suggestions for her wish. It was a funny time for Colleen because a few weeks before she broke up with her boy friend.
She put her suggestions into a hat and reached her hand in and shuffled the pieces of paper around. When she finally took her hand out, she unfolded it with her eyes closed. She opened her eyes slowly. The wish that she revealed was that she was going to marry a prince.

The next morning she woke up and went for a shower. Then she got dressed into her nicest out fit. She grabbed the penny and took the penny and herself to the beach where she stood at the look out and said into the penny “I wish I was married to a prince but he must be cute”. Nothing happened!
She walked along the beach and a handsome guy ran into her. She suspected that he was the prince that she wished for. He asked if she was alright. She replied “yes.” When he introduced himself as a prince she knew her ‘lucky penny’ had worked. They spent the rest of the day getting to know each other. His name was Brent. He asked if she would like to come to his Birthday ball. She replied “Of course.”
It was 15 hrs till the ball and Colleen did not know what to wear. So she called an old friend of hers. Her name was Carol. Carol came as soon as she heard about the ball. Carol quickly designed a dress for Colleen. It was so elegant. She turned up in an Alfa Romeo, which was a dark black. She got out of the car and Brent took her hand and asked her to dance with him. After the dance Brent took her up on the stage and in front of every one he asked for her hand in marriage.
It was a hard decision, and then all of a sudden she said “No.” She could not do it. She still had feelings for Joseph (her old boy friend). So she ran off and drove back to Joseph’s house and knocked on the door, no one answered. She knocked again, suddenly the door opened and Joseph came to the door. She ran up to him and kissed him. Then she said “I know I have been a jerk.” Joseph said “I know and I have been a jerk as well.”
When they got married Colleen knew that all along Joseph had been the prince she was looking for. They bought one dog and two fish. The dog’s name was Shelly and the two fish’s names were Bob and Bobette. They bought a lovely 4 bedroom house with a pool and about two years later they had triplets, 2 girls and 1 boy. Their names were Tara, Paulina and James. Unfortunately there was a problem with Tara when she was born with one of her fingers and the doctors had to amputate it.

One year later Joseph and Colleen built a massive toy room and a cubby house with a slide, sand pit and a TV inside. Once the kids got older they were able to go in the cubby. Even though they were still very young Tara, Paulina and James had already started to plan their life. Tara planned to be a nurse, Paulina wanted to be a beautician and James wanted to be a famous swimmer.
The children’s 7th birthday was approaching and all they wanted were motorbikes and toys. All they kept on saying was “I want a moto.” Well, guess what? They got what they wanted. Their rooms were covered in motorbike stuff and toys all over the floor.
Colleen and Joseph had a business which was doing extremely well because they became richer every day. They finally bought a 2 storey house with 4 bathrooms and 7 bedrooms on 6 acres with a pool and plenty of room for them to ride their bikes. Colleen was so busy with the business and her children that she needed help. Joseph suggested hiring some help and they employed three maids and two gardeners which made life much easier for Colleen and the family.
They had ‘the life.’ They would go to the movies every few weeks and go for dinner every Sunday night. They had a free life; they could do what the wanted! Even though Colleen didn’t marry a prince, she still felt like a princess everyday with her wonderful life with her husband and children.
