That Bird By Brenton Martin October 2005

That bird which sits upon our tree
I wonder if he is truly free
Does he work or does he play,
What does he do in those long summer days?

He has a family which needs care,
He works all day for a meal he must share
And yet he does not hide it away
And a human would if they had worked all day.
He cares for others not just himself
But while some put themselves on the top shelf.

So even though he slaves all day for a meal which is not his
That bird is free in the greatest way.
He does not put himself on the highest shelf.
