War of the Elements By Melisa Hill
War of the Elements - Prologue
There was once a time on earth when everything was peaceful. There was no war between the Chaos clan and the Dark Essence clan. Both clans strived for the same thing, power. That was until; 1000 years ago the Chaos stumbled upon an ancient prophecy. The prophecy states that the rulers of the seven prime elements would make their home on Earth. These elements were supremely powerful, but they constantly fought against each other.
When the Elements arrived on Earth 100 years later, Chaos found it high time to declare war on Dark Essence. The elements were peaceful for the first hundred years, while they recovered from their journey. The Chaos and Dark Essence clans fought instead. Joey Wheeler, the ruler of the Dark Essence clan did not want or need the power of the elements. He stole the prophecy from Chaos 50 years after the elements arrived.
Chaos wanted the power of the elements. They believed that capturing the rulers would allow them an easy win over the Dark Essence. This was not the case. Members of the clan in search of the Elements never returned. It seemed that they had awakened. The Elements had landed in different parts of the world. Fire landed in the still active volcano Pompeii, Ice made home in Antarctica. Earth took to the Rainforests of the Amazon, and Water took control of the Nile. Spirit took over Stonehenge, and Electricity shared the skies with Air.
Each element had a human form and name as well as a celestial form. Fire was named Shizuka Kawai, a girl with fiery hair and honey coloured eyes. Her celestial form turned her eyes red and her hair to fire. Ice, was a 6ft 2 male named Seto Kaiba. Eyes like ice and chocolate coloured hair whose celestial form turned his entire body to ice. Mai Valentine was Air, with violet eyes and golden hair she was often mistaken for a true human when on land. Her celestial form turned her eyes grey and her hair light blue. Anzu Mazaki was the ruler of water. She had blue eyes and brown hair. Her hair was turned to water when in her celestial form. Atem Motou was the spirit of electricity, his hair was magenta and black with blonde lightning shaped bangs and streaks. His eyes were purple. Electricity surrounded his body and his eyes turned to gold when he took his celestial form. Rebecca Hawkins was the spirit of Earth. With green eyes and blonde hair, her hair turned to twigs and leaves when in celestial form. Isis Ishtar was the final ruler, the Lady of Spirit. With black hair and blue eyes she turned transparent when in celestial form. Each ruler could fully control anything to do with their element. They could bring on tidal waves or make a volcano erupt, forests could sprout anywhere and anything could be turned to ice. Ghosts roamed the earth and thunder storms and tornados could come when least expected.
900 hundred years had passed since their awakening, and they had yet to be caught. The war still raged between the two Earth clans. The world had never looked worse. It was now divided into seven parts. Human were slowly dying.
The prophecy had also stated that the humans would unite against the elements and destroy them, bringing balance back. The ruler of the chaos clan, Bakura, made sure this never happened. He wanted their power. Bakura devised a plan to capture his first elemental ruler, Water. He succeeded. Water was brought to Bakura and locked in a magical cell. This cell prevented her from using her magic.
Now, while the elements fought against each other, they had a strange bond. The direct opponent of a captured element would fight for its release. Water’s direct opponent was Electricity, and this is where this story begins. Electricity has abandoned the fight and gone in search of Water. Bakura sets his traps well.
Chapter One
Chaos Base
“Let me go!”
“Ah keep it down!”
“If you let me go I will shut up.”
“Yeah right. Keep it down Water or I’ll have to hurt you, again.”
The said spirit Water, Anzu Mazaki, spat at the guard’s feet and retreated to the back of her cell. With her powers paralysed by the magic in the cell, it was about all she could do.
For three days the Lady of Water had been stuck idle in the cell, and it was starting to take its toll. Her normally bright brown hair had turned dull; her pale skin had dried out from lack of exposure to water.
One of the main weaknesses of the elements was that they must have almost constant exposure to the element they rule. The people of the Chaos clan were making sure Anzu never came in direct contact with water, not that she could do anything to it anyway.
“Are we in a bad mood today?”
Anzu looked up, expecting to find the guard again. Instead she saw the leader of the chaos clan, Bakura. From what Anzu had overheard, Bakura’s brother Ryou, was a member of the opposing clan; Dark Essence. This had made Bakura bitter and cold-hearted. He had never let anyone get close to him again.
Anzu glared at him and lowered her eyes back to the floor.
“I’ll take that as a yes. You do know your not gonna get out of there until you do what I want.”
Anzu looked up. “I’ll never do anything you say.”
“And there’s your problem.”
“Bastard.”
Bakura shook a finger at her. “That’s not gonna help either.”
“Go away and torment someone else.” She glared at him again.
“Not until you tell me what I want to know.”
Anzu remained quiet, eyes searching the floor of the cell. Bakura noticed this.
“You’re not going to find any water. Why bother anyway, you can’t do anything with it.”
Anzu looked up. “You bastard, I still need it to live. I’m sure I won’t be much help to you dead.”
“You can’t die, you’re immortal.”
“Time cannot kill us, prolonged absence from our elements can.”
Bakura sighed. “What do you need?”
Anzu looked at him suspiciously. “What do you mean?”
“Are you stupid? I mean what do you need to stay alive.”
“A lake would be nice.”
“You’re not getting out of here. What do you need that you can get in your cell?”
Anzu sighed. “I tried. A constant supply of water would do. Clean water though, if it’s dirty it would only kill me faster.”
“Can’t you clean it yourself.”
“Not without my powers I can’t.”
“Good point. If I make sure you get the water will you talk?”
“Depends on what you ask.”
Bakura sighed with exasperation and stalked away.
Anzu smirked. ‘He has no idea what’s coming to him.’ Her haired turned to water briefly, and Anzu’s smirk widened.
A fiery haired figure was walking through a cloud of steam. The steam was her doing. She was the Lady of Fire, Shizuka Kawai, or as the people who lived in her lands called her: Pyro. Shizuka was roughly 5 foot seven, and looked about 21, though she was really older than the earth itself. Shizuka took pleasure in annoying Ice, that’s why she was away from her lands for today. Ice had been feeling rather brave recently. He had turned a corner of her lands to ice. This ticked her off, so she was melting the ice back.
It was harder to hold ones land then to gain it. Australia had taken forever to get off Earth, now Ice has gone and frozen New South Wales over.
‘Asshole’
“Kaiba, where are you? Don’t hide from me. You don’t want to tick me off even more.” Her voice echoed around the icy plain.
She got no answer.
“Ssseeetttoooo, where are you? Come out, come out wherever you are.”
The air around her suddenly got very cold. ‘Knew that would get him.’
The Lord of Ice, Seto Kaiba materialised in front of her. He wore dark blue pants, a light blue shirt and had a white cape with a hood on. White wings folded tightly against his back. He crossed his arms over his chest.
“Don’t call me by my first name, it’s Kaiba to you.”
“I do what I want when I want. And right now I have a bone to pick with you, several actually.”
The air around Shizuka heated up again, causing steam to rise.
“Would you stop doing that!”
Shizuka gave him an innocent look. “Doing what?”
The air heated up more and the ice started to melt faster.
“Melting my ice!”
“It’s on MY land!”
Kaiba uncrossed his arms. “It’s my land now!”
Shizuka’s eyes turned red and her hair to fire. “And I’m taking it back.”
She drew her arm back and threw a fire ball at him. Kaiba dodged it as his body turned to ice. When he took his elemental form his clothes changed as well. He lost the shirt and cape and his wings unfolded.
“You’re a shocking shot.” Kaiba taunted. “Makes me wonder how you even won Australia off of Earth in the first place.” He quickly dodged another fire ball.
“What and you’re one to talk?”
“I’m a better shot than you are.” To prove his point he threw a ball of ice at. It melted before it got to her.
“Yeah. Better shot my ass.” She released a stream of fire at him this time.
Kaiba took to the air. He looked her over. Shizuka only wore a red tank top and black short shorts, due to the heat she usually lived in. Right now she looked cold.
“Sure your ass won’t freeze off.” He said as he threw a ball of ice at her. She didn’t see it coming; something else had caught her attention. The ball hit, and a solid block of ice formed around her. She immediately changed back to her human form; it was too cold to stay in celestial. Kaiba took advantage of this momentary peace to land, and position himself directly in front of her. He should have known better. The ice exploded seconds after he landed, a wet and very livid Shizuka standing in the middle.
“You ass! That was a cheap shot!”
“You should learn to concentrate better Pyro.”
Shizuka pointed a finger at him. “You have no right to call me Pyro. Only my people can.”
Kaiba grabbed her hand and twisted her arm behind her back, pulling her against his chest. He had turned back to human when he landed, so her body heat wouldn’t cause him to melt. He leaned in, mouth next to her ear.
“I do what I want, when I want.” He mocked.
“Don’t mock me you bastard!” She swung her free hand at his head, only to have it pinned behind her back as well.
“Temper, temper Pyro. It’s not ladylike to yell.”
“I am by no means ladylike you ass. I don’t hesitate to yell or hurt people.”
“Is that a threat?” His lips were still very close to her ear. His cold breath caused her to shiver.
“You can bet your heart of ice it is.” Her hair suddenly flamed up and Kaiba pulled back with a yell.
“Bitch.” Was all he said before disappearing.
“Coward.”
Shizuka suddenly sensed the presence that had originally caused her momentary concentration loss before.
She looked around. She couldn’t tell who it was. She just knew someone was there.
“Oi Kawai, above you.”
Shizuka looked up. Above her was the Lord of Electricity, Atem Motou.
She groaned “What do you want?” she snapped.
“You’re in a bad mood. I was wondering if you had seen Water?”
“Why would I have seen her?”
“Your lands border hers.”
“But I’m obviously not in my lands.”
“Oohh touchy.”
She ignored the comment. “Why do you want to see her anyway?”
“Can’t find her.”
“Idiot probably got herself captured.”
“What do you mean?” Atem landed, gold wings folding to his back.
“People from Chaos were in her lands a few days ago.” She said dismissively.
Atem raised an eyebrow. “She wouldn’t get captured. She’s stronger than them.”
“Really, never knew that.”
“Bitch.”
“You know people keep telling me that today.”
“Well it’s true.”
She narrowed her eyes. “You want a piece of me flyboy? Come and get it!”
She threw a fireball at his head. Atem dodged it and took to the air, laughing.
“Thanks for the help!” he said before speeding away.
Shizuka threw her hands up in exasperation. “Men.” She said, before releasing her own wings and taking to the air, heading back to her lands.
1 day later
Anzu was awoken by yelling.
“Let me go!”
Her eyes widened. She recognised that voice.
“Shit sir. He zapped us.”
“Just get him in the cell.”
Anzu got up and walked to the front of the cell, peering through the bars she tried to see what all the ruckus was about. Two guards appeared in front of her.
“Move it Water. You have a new cell mate.”
Anzu moved out of the way. The door was opened and a battered Atem was thrown in. She laughed as the door was closed.
“Figures you’d get yourself captured.”
He looked at her. “Could say the same for you Mazaki.”
Anzu glared at him and retreated back to her usual spot in the cell. Atem stood up and took the other back corner of the cell.
“Just stay out of my way.” Anzu said before closing her eyes and trying to go back to sleep.
“Yeah that will be easy, were stuck in a cell that’s got to be only four meters from one wall to another.”
“Oh shut up.”
